Hi! I’m Brittany Fichter, and I currently hail from the kingdom of northern Utah (where the Air Force has placed us for the time being). I’m a military wife, homeschool mom, lifelong nerd, arts and crafts geek, history buff, fantasy writer, drinker of coffee-flavored creamer, and conservative Christian. My degree is in elementary education, but I’ve traded in my classroom educator card for life at home with my kiddos, where I can explore the world with them while also escaping to whatever imaginary world I’ve recently gotten lost in.
Thank you for joining me for yet another year of happily-ever-afters! I can’t wait to show you around! So if you haven’t already, get your jammies on, grab a hot drink, fill a bowl with snacks, and settle in for some sweet happily ever afters!

I was somewhat mystified by this tale when I was little. It was unusually gruesome, but there was so much backstory that I knew wasn’t explained in my fairy tale book. And as no one has stepped forward to give me more, I decided to fill it in myself. This is the first time I’ve made this story free! But it’s only free for a little while, so make sure to download it now!
Event 2: An Announcement and a Vote!
Remember when I gave a teaser about a company that I had hired to do work that just wasn’t up to scratch?
Well, that work was designing special edition hardcovers for my Before Beauty Trilogy Kickstarter! Only… the work just wasn’t up to standard.
So instead of delaying the project to find a new designer that might take months to finish the same project… I took a risk and designed the books myself.
AND I LOVE HOW THEY TURNED OUT!!!
I don’t have the physical copies yet, as I’m waiting for some of my commissioned art to come in, but guys… there’s so much COLOR!
Speaking of custom art, I hired the amazingly talented Jenelle Hovde to create custom art for the endpapers for each book, and this… this is what she came up with for Before Beauty!!!
AREN’T EVER AND ISA GORGEOUS?!
And there’s going to be two more images just as gorgeous!!!
*Happy sigh*
I’m ALSO using this spot to announce my upcoming BRAND-NEW Ever and Isa novella, Beloved Beauty: A Novella Retelling of The Steadfast Tin Soldier! This one won’t be released as a special edition, but it WILL include the early release of the paperback for the Kickstarter, so you’ll be able to get it with the special editions!!!
Unfortunately, I’m not able to do worldwide shipping right now for all of the books in the Kickstarter, BUT unlike last time, I’ll have the special editions available for international shipping for a few new countries as well! And the digital goods will be available everywhere.
If these are stories you’d love to have on your shelf, make sure to follow my campaign here!
In the meantime, I have a poll for you! I have to decide which stretch goals to include if we go above and beyond our first funding goal! And I need your help! If you were to be a part of this Kickstarter, what stretch goals would you like to see?
Have another stretch goal idea you'd like to see what wasn't here? Put it in a comment, and I'll take it into consideration!
Giveaway 2: Silent Mermaid
A Retelling of The Little Mermaid
How does a silent mermaid win a war of song?
How does she break the siren song of the one holding her beloved captive?
After being touched by the sun at birth, Princess Arianna has grown up imprisoned between two worlds, neither fully mermaid nor fully human. Her life is one of solitude and dreams. But when she loses her family and her kingdom in a war between man and merfolk, she is forced to flee into the arms of the enemy. Her only hope of protection lies in the penniless prince that she once saved and his two boisterous nieces.
Prince Michael is at his wit’s end. After the great maritime war, he must clean up the pieces of neglect, folly, and evil that his grandfather has left behind. With his people starving and his treasury nearly empty, the familiar girl from the past that falls piteously at his feet cannot be afforded his attention. He has only the resources and time for the barest of good deeds to pay back that which she gave him. But the more Michael begins to hear the girl beneath her silence, the more he realizes she just might be the distraction he cannot survive without.
All the while, darkness is beginning to poison the ocean, and an evil foreseen by neither Arianna nor Michael threatens the very existence of both peoples. If they wish to restore their kingdoms, Arianna and Michael will need to reassess their alliances, their beliefs, and an ancient prophecy that’s been all but forgotten. Most importantly, however, they must decide whether they can move past their personal pain and trust one another. Because if they can’t, everything and everyone they love will fall.
Silent Mermaid is fifth in the Classical Kingdoms Collection but can be read as a stand-alone. Buy Silent Mermaid to escape into the world of the Classical Kingdoms Collection with clean, passionate romance, magical mystery, and heroic happily-ever-afters.
Event 3: Quest for a Coloring Sheet
If you were at the party last year, you might remember that I shared how I was going to run a Kickstarter for my first middle-grade fantasy novel as a gift for my son. He really wanted to get into bigger fantasy books, but they were just hard enough that he was feeling frustrated.
As a homeschool mom and a teacher, the last thing I wanted was for my son to give up on fantasy just because he needed a little help stepping into such fantastical worlds. I’ve also run into the problem of finding so many fantasy books for children that contain content that, as a Christian, I am not okay with my kids being exposed to in their literature.
So I decided to write a book just for him. But it really wasn’t just for him. It was for all the little (and big) fantasy readers who need a fun, safe, magical adventure. Which is how Quest for a King was born.
This epic dragon fantasy quest is an adventure that the whole family can embark on–an adventure that’s safe for all readers, from young to old. And though it’s not technically a traditional fairy tale retelling, it is a tale with fae, so I mean… it is technically a faerie tale.
Teaching our children not just to read but to be readers is more important than ever. And just as important is giving them quality literature that emphasizes godly character traits such as strength, courage, kindness, humility, and self-sacrifice. In a world as dark as ours, they need hope and light.
A dash of humor doesn’t hurt, either.
In case you were curious as to how it turned out, I want to show you the final version of the book–the ultimate hardcover special edition. It really took my breath away, and I’m SO grateful for the chance to create something like this for my kids.
If this sounds like a story you or your kiddo might love, you can find the books and/or merch here. The paperback and corresponding parent / teacher guide are available on Amazon, but you can also order a signed and stamped copy , and I even have some special editions and book boxes (a limited supply) available as well!
And as my kids are obsessed with audiobooks, I even have it available in audio here!
So why am I sharing this? After all, it’s not a traditional fairy tale (though it IS a tale, and it does have fae). Aside from trying to give you another safe reading option for your young reader (or for you, if you’re looking for a quick adventure), I’m giving you a free printable coloring sheet! Print it as many times as you like!
Giveaway 3: The Huntsman’s Heart
A Retelling of Snow White
Princess Snow and Prince Henri couldn’t be more different.
Their kingdoms and families have been at enmity for a thousand years.
But when a new dark queen rises, they have little choice but to join forces.
If they don’t, not only will their kingdoms fall…but the entire western realm.
Princess Snow has been sheltered since she was born, hidden in a secret garden at her terrified father’s behest. But when her father dies, and her older brother grants her the freedom of which she’s always dreamed, she feels as though the world is finally hers. Just as Snow’s life is about to begin, however, her brother’s new wife reveals a heart full of jealousy and fear. Barely escaping the castle alive, Snow stumbles upon a group of kind-hearted mountain men…and the aggravatingly handsome prince who claims her brother asked him to find her.
Crown Prince Henri Fortier of Destin had no intentions of journeying into the heart of his enemy’s land. But when the newly crowned king of Tumen sends word, begging for help to find his missing sister, Henri goes in hopes of making peace with the new king. What he finds, however, is not what he expected.
The princess is indeed alive, but she won’t remain so if the king’s new wife has her way. And with the new queen’s blossoming powers, Henri knows he must intervene, not only for the princess’s sake, but for the entire realm. Intervening would be much easier, however, if the princess didn’t resent him so much. Which makes it even more confusing when he finds himself drawn to her…and wonders whether she’s secretly drawn to him, as well.
None of that will matter, however, if the evil queen has her way. If these two unlikely allies can’t stop her, a shadow of misery and oppression will overtake everyone they love.
If you want the magic of Narnia and the romance of fairy tales, read this clean fantasy retelling of Snow White today to escape into the Classical Kingdoms Collection, a series of clean fantasy fairy tale retellings with magical mystery, clean, passionate romance, and heroic happily-ever-afters.
Author’s Note: The Huntsman’s Heart features the same royal family from Beauty Beheld, but it can be read as a standalone novel.
This book was a labor of love, and I labored over it for over five years before it ever hit bookshelves. And now, for the first time since it launched, you get it for free!
The Huntsman’s Heart continues the saga of the Fortier family, but even if you haven’t read Isa and Ever’s stories (Before Beauty, Blinding Beauty, and Beauty Beheld), you can still enjoy their adopted son Henri’s story as a standalone!

He had been cursed by the jealous queen to be a tree by day and a man by night because his father, the king, refused to accept any type of business proposal or alliances treaty from the queen. It becomes a race against time to break the curse as two problems become apparent. One, that the prince cannot leave the forest or else he would die, and two, that if they don’t break the curse in the next ten days, the curse will eat away at the magical barrier of the forest that keeps it hidden, which would allow the jealous queen to send her assassins to destroy the heart of the magic of the kingdom, sending their magic dependant kingdom into ruin.

This takes him to Eva’s small village where he meets this highly dependable young woman and feels something strange about her that he just can’t put a name to.
Together, they uncover a most ancient curse placed on the line of their land’s kings that had long remained dormant until King Auron’s power hungry uncle activated it out of spite. Along with this is a curious blood relationship between Eva and the elves of the neighboring kingdom that could – possibly – break the curse once and for all.
Only, Geraint isn’t sure he’s willing to pay the price.
Wary heiress, warrior, cursed ring, mysterious mountain setting (sorry cooking lunch for my kiddo and no time to scroll back up to get it all perfect lol)
I’d love a story about a wary heiress, a knight cursed to silence, a jealous dragon, and a hidden magical forest.

Dwelling on her knight during the day keeps her from noticing that an evil neighboring queen is poisoning her family and her kingdom against her. Finally understanding the danger the two meet in her dreams to take down the queen, but not all is as it seems with her knight. A dependable oldest sister is walking home from the market with her two younger sisters in their mysterious mountain city, crossing the treacherous pass, when a sudden avalanche nearly kills them. A mysterious knight appears, helping the eldest sister save the younger ones. He never says a word, and MFC eventually deduces he is under a curse of silence, but he vanishes before she can learn more about him. Their paths keep crossing under odd circumstances (runaway horse tries to trample her, forceful wind tries to blow her off a bridge, etc.) and strike up an unlikely friendship, learning to communicate without words. One day he offers her a beautiful, unique sapphire ring with a poetically written proposal. She is initially delighted, even as she’s troubled to marry someone under an active curse, but he won’t meet her eyes or put the ring on her finger. When she tries to pick it up to put it on herself, he suddenly snatches it and flings it into a nearby field, storming off. As she stares after him in shock, a child mysteriously appears with the ring in his hand: “Miss, I found this in the field. Is it yours?” The knight turns in horror just as she takes the ring and a tingle runs through her. The “child” was actually the witch that cursed the knight and has been trying to kill the MFC with all the “accidents,” since MFC comes from an ancient, nearly forgotten line of magicians who could defeat her attempts to gain power. She had cursed the knight, and when he kept circumventing her death attempts she blackmailed him into proposing with a cursed ring to bring MFC under her power (the ring, which can’t be removed, prevents MFC from accessing her dormant power). Now MFC and knight must work together, with some help from the precocious little sisters, to break his curse and the ring’s spell before it’s too late.
A shrewd business woman, a dragon shifter, and the ring that brings them together.

Two hours later, as the moon was moving through the sky, Mischief finally remembered the spell correctly and Magpie turned back into a human girl. She still had a mouthful of grass and spit ir out immediately. As soon as her mouth was clear, she started hollering at Mischief wanting to know what he had done to her. Mischief apologized for his spell going haywire when she scared him. He introduced himself and so did she. The both looked at each other oddly. Well, names like that will do it.
Magpie explained that her Papa always called her Magpie because she always repeated what people said and loved grabbing shiny things when she was young. She also told him that she was on her own and orphaned.
Mischief got his name because he was always into things trying to learn. He offered to ask his teacher if she could join them and learn magic or do something else to be helpful.
She accepted his offer and they became close friends.

Leaf, a half-human, half fae girl, who also happens to be the oldest half sister of her rather sizable family (beings that she was the only daughter of her fathers first marriage to a fairy woman), has always worked hard to help her younger, full-human siblings and father. Her stepmother tolerates her, but wants her married off sooner rather than later. Her father attempts to get her married off to the baker’s son, but everything falls apart when she is noticed by a raven king, Rylan Blackwing, who kidnaps her off to his sentient castle. Leaf is very resentful and is desperate to get back to her father and family, only Rylan will not let her go, pointing out that she is fae and rightly belongs with her own kind (and the raven, dragon, and wolf people are all subsets of the fae). As she starts to come to terms with him, her heritage, and how it all intersects with her human family, the sentient castle accidentally lets it slip that her fae grandfather is the one who put Rylan up to all this and has promised her in marriage to him. She is infuriated! Who can she trust? Who really has her best interests at heart? And can she seize her own happily ever after from everyone else’s plans for her?
Nearly reaching into the clouds stood a nearly impenetrable sentient castle in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. The castle was older than time or memory, and the cliffs the stone structure clung to was known as, the Bock. Lauraleigh Brooks had known its secrets for nearly 22 years. As the oldest, and by far, the most responsible daughter of the Grand Duchy, she yearned for answers to the whispers throughout the castle of the ancient curse that would soon befall her. Nearby, in the quaint, but charming village of Piesport, Germany lived a Raven King, part German and part Irish. James Patrick Carroll was known far and wide as the intended husband of Lauraleigh. They had only met once when they were both children and were as opposite in looks as the sun and moon. James’ olive complexion and jet black hair with just the faintest glimmer of midnight blue was a stark contrast to Lauraleigh’s fair skin and platinum long hair that reached to her waist. . .to be continued.
Celia, always the dependable older sister, takes the care of her younger siblings seriously; there was no time for frivolity because seeing that 7 younger brothers and sisters are fed, clothed, protected, and kept out of trouble doesn’t leave much time for anything else. Her parents are wonderful and caring, but have their hands full with their medical practice; they are often away helping those in need. It takes a lot to provide for 8 children and the several nearby villages. Their reputation has even made them indispensable to the royal family. Celia would love to join them, having a knack for healing herself, but she has no time to truly study. She also has another problem, magic! When she turned 16 magic began to bubble up within her at the most inconvenient times. She’s been afraid to say anything because no one she knows has magic, and it has been taboo since the royal family’s experience with a dark magician.
A mysterious warrior passes through her village on the way to the castle; she has no time to gawk at him like the other girls, who are swooning over him and his good looks and apparent gallantry. And she definitely has no time for him when she learns that Princess Giselle has her eyes set on him, because no one gets in the way of the princess and her schemes; too many have felt the sting of her tongue and experienced her wrath when things didn’t go her way. What sane person would want to get mixed up with her?
Celia and the villagers learn that the warrior has been sent to find a bride for his prince. It cannot be just any maiden; she must be one of valor, wit, and creativity, for a spell must be broken that has fallen on the kingdom. Apparently, the royal family didn’t look at titles but character. Learning this, Princess Giselle set her sights on becoming this bride; she can’t resist the opportunity to become queen of a mighty nation, being the younger sister to the very popular princess Corina, makes this option appealing in her hunger for power.
The warrior has a list of questions and challenges for all the young ladies interested in engaging to prove themselves. Celia would slip away, uninterested in the “games.” She had too many other things to worry about, besides taking on a kingdom’s curse.
However, when a sudden sickness begins to take hold of the villagers, and Celia’s family is affected, she sets out into the forest to find the herbs her parents need for the remedy. In her frustration at not being able to find the plants she seeks, she lets out a cry, awakening her magic in a way she has never experienced, and it draws her to the very plants she seeks within minutes. Suddenly, she is aware of the life force of every living thing in the forest. It overwhelms her. She drops to the forest floor under the weight of the experience. She is discovered there by the warrior, who felt a ripple of power through the forest as he traveled from another town towards her village and the castle. He helps her and shares that he is familiar with magic, that it has been welcomed in his land for generations, though the curse has made some question its value. He helps her gather the herbs and takes her back to her home. He promises not to tell her secret, though he encourages her to talk with her parents.
Celia now becomes the focus of the warrior; she is not sure why, except for her magic. There is something mysterious to him, and she is not sure she wants to know.
He believes she is the answer to his country’s problem and could be the right person to marry the prince. He invites her, Princess Giselle, and another girl from a neighboring village to travel with him back to his homeland to see if any one of them can break the spell and free the prince.

One impulsive spell later—meant to make him “speak from the heart”—goes spectacularly wrong. Now? He can’t speak at all. The kingdom panics. The court wizard faints. The visiting king demands solutions. But the ancient spellbook reveals the only cure: a blossom that grows in a hidden magical forest no one has entered in a hundred years. But who is to retrieve it? The princess—determined to fix her mistake. And the knight—furious, silenced, and stuck escorting the very girl who caused this mess. She talks – constantly. He communicates through sighs, gestures, heroic rescues, and the occasional “hmph.” And the forest doesn’t release the cure until love is confessed… not through grand speeches—but through action.
